Teacher

Tim Hands comes from a family of teachers.  He read English at Kings College London, was  senior scholar at St Catherine’s College Oxford, and then Lecturer at Oriel College, where he helped to admit the first women undergraduates. He has published four books on Victorian literature as well as many articles on literature from 1790 to the present day. In 2017 he was elected an Honorary Fellow of Kings College.

Over twenty six years Tim served as Head of three schools:  Portsmouth Grammar School, Magdalen College School Oxford and Winchester College.  He was chair of the HMC Universities Committee and then of HMC.  He has written extensively on education, for books, magazines and all the major newspapers.
